so it was a long week and i’d an ear infection and wound up spending the majority of saturday in a swoon state watching far and away. which reminded me why i ❤ tommy cruise (in spite of himself) and why tommy cruise and nicole kidman were my celebrity couple ideal. (kidman knows this… in 2013, she likened herself and cruise to brangelina– it’s just us who’ve forgotten.)
an easy thing to forget in all that came after the split in 2000- news so shocking that, as though it were my generation’s equivalent of the moon landing, i vividly remember sitting in a t-shirt and boxers in front of the brand spanking new dell XPS one 20 and first reading about it on cnn.com (which, fyi, looked like this then).
it felt, at the time, like a big deal. not just gossip-wise, but in real life. whether it actually was remains to be seen. this was spring of 2000. the century was young. there was a lot to happen yet. but i think we can say with some certainty that cruise and kidman were- once upon a time, for the briefest of shining moments, in the most 90s possible way (the long hair, the VELVET BLAZER!!!)- deeply so cool…

You ought to blog more often, I love your writing, pics and subject matter. Amazing how well Kidman’s style holds up, makeup included. (Or is it that we’re still having a 90s revival so it fits?) It feels like such a (re)discovery to see these two together.
no, i agree. they look strikingly modern in some of the later 1999/2000 photos. especially the one of her in the black leather with the flat ironed hair. had to google to determine they’d not been photographed together in the mid-00s!
