what i wanna focus our brains on is how, given the BLANKET UNRELENTING ATTENTION the daily mail gave this relationship, the daily mail‘s pictorial article on its demise- “Hiddleswift’s doomed romance in pictures: Tom and Taylor’s first public kiss on the rocks, smug snuggles on the porch and declarations of love… before it all fizzled out in three months” (btw, BEST.ARTICLE.TITLE.EVER)- could feature a mere 16 photos, only ELEVEN of them of hiddleswift.

ignoring everything else about this- like the accusations of a “showmance,” the larger narrative around swift’s love life, the july throwdown with KK, and hiddleswift’s complicity in their press coverage- there was, in its early days an intensity of press coverage strangely evocative of tomkat…

and also of princess diana and dodi fayed…

two stories that pre-dated the heyday of internet gossip in which we now live and which didn’t exactly end well.

(sidenote: this theory is a fascinating one.)

which is perhaps why i screenshotted every single daily mail article on this relationship: because i am a crazy person yes, but also because, even from the very beginning, this seemed like a story that we would, at one point or another, want/need to see in panorama.

and so the daily mail gives us the relationship of hiddleswift in photographs and i offer you the story of hiddleswift as told through daily mail headlines…

and with that, summer- historically, gossip’s best season– ends.
